Currently, one of the cheapest foreign wines in Canada (and Canada does have its own very active wine industry) is "FuZion" wine from Argentina. It sells for at least 25% less than most foreign or domestic wines, and the red, I can say from personal experience, is very good.
Give it a try if you can find it.

Great article --- the French, as is pointed out, are so proprietary when it comes to their own wine naming system.
As an aside, Scottish distillers not long ago sued Glen Breton Distillery of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, for using the "scotch" designation for their single malt whisky. Glen Breton is the only scotch made outside of Scotland. Cape Breton Island has a strong Scottish heritage and Glen Breton single-malt whisky is a true scotch; nevertheless I think they had to drop the "scotch" designation.

I've seen this stuff - haven't tried it though....

I visited Cape Breton a number of years ago and was waiting for Glen Breton to appear in our liquor stores. When it finally did, I took one look at the price and decided it wasn't worth it, for me. $85 for a 26 oz bottle.
Of course in the States, with your ridiculously low liquor prices, it's proably a LOT cheaper.

We had some FuZion over our Christmas vacation courtesy our oldest son; we liked it even though we prefer tend to prefer Rieslings. We also had a Cave Springs ice wine (Canadian) that was a very nice dessert treat.
We're finding more and more small vineyards popping up everywhere. Of the three in our area we're a regular customer of one.
