View Full Version : Jon Stewart: Palin Like A "Moose In Headlights"
Nausicaa

"Stewart went on to break down the interview, mocking Beck's decision to read a journal entry he wrote about Palin. As Beck pours his heart out, Stewart is quick to note that Palin freezes like "a moose in headlights." He then compared to Jodie Foster's character in "Silence Of The Lambs," with Beck, of course, being Hannibal Lecter. I have serious doubts about anyone's mental state who takes a comedian seriously.

It's like Colbert, but Stewart is way too... cutesy.

Part of the problem is far to many people think Colbert and Stewart's shows are actual news shows instead of the comedy parodies they really are.

A comedian says this? LMFAO! Who the **** is he? I mean really? What all the hell has he done in public service? What organizations(other than his directing those who help support his cocaine habit amongst other things) has he run? What State has he ever run??? Ummm, didn't think so.
Amazing how much these people berate Sarah Palin and claim she is "dumb" as well as other things. The efforts to knock her down a few notches here and there make one wonder, The left must feel she is a threat to them to expend so much effort against her. It's laughable as much as they are.

As I'm no doubt classified as a junior member of the "Worshippers of our Lady of Perpetual Victimhood" Cult even though I've said nothing related to Palin before, I'll just throw in that if you are traveling with any kind of speed and you end up with a "moose in your headlights", you are likely not very long for this world. They are rather large and tend to kill most everything in the vehicle that hits them...

I agree. The thing that really bothers me is the amount of people(that would be you Naus old man) who have never meet the woman and have only read the out of context nonsense posted by the left media about her to make their point.
I almost hate to say this but,Nausicaa please open your mind a bit.I read your posts and you remind me of my brother. No one can tell him anything,no matter what. You can show him evidence to the contrary and he will simply say "that's not true".
Never looking at opposing viewpoints. He is entirely too arrogant to ever admit he could be wrong, now this is not a personal attack on you, just a suggestion.
So,my opinion of her? Beautiful, cunning and intelligent. The left fear her more then anyone at the moment.Remember that word...cunning.
Always remember we live in different cultures.(I lived in Germany for 2 years) and we see things very differently even in a country as close as Canada.

That argument can also be reversed.
I have never meet the woman and have only read the praises on Foxnews about her to make my point.
I'm not impressed by the lady, nor do I think she's a complete dumbass, but that's just because she doesn't make the news that much on this side of the pond, and that I'm not interested that much to take time looking for info about her on the net. I won't have to vote for or against her. So I can't give an informed point of view but it just seems people here love her a bit more than she deserves given what she's accomplished so far.

The very same could be said about Obama both before and after the election. He is and was an empty suit with nothing going for him but an ability to say what the left wants to hear.

Yeap, now that the chrome has worn off the public begins to see the lemon they bought into. In a couple of years, is likely he wouldn't be able to be elected as Dog Catcher in Chicago.

Bzhyoyo, some of us do know a bit about her political history - especially her rather strong and successful campaign to remove a lot of cronyism and corruption in the state government in Alaska.
We're not just a bunch of 17 year olds, enamored with her because of her looks. She has substance and conviction. I believe she is an honest operator and as safn1949 pointed out - cunning, in a political world of experienced foxes - which means that she will be able to hold her own.
Of course she's not perfect - who is ? But IMO we need leaders of conviction that we can trust. We don't have them now.

I hear you. And I am not closed to change my mind. In fact, this forum changes my mind on America. Now, I dare to say that this is more than almost all the others here would admit concerning Europe. In fact, I have never heard anyone of them saying this.
Concerning Palin, I think she is is unfit of running the USA. Totally unfit. That does not mean she is not fit of running Alaska. But she has turned that down herself. Now she is a Fox News contractor. She will never run again for presidency. (and if she will, she will never win). But I don't think she is that stupid.

So are you guys putting all your eggs in the Sarah Palin basket if she does run or waiting to see who else steps to the plate. She seems to be the only one on the republican radar at this point. It is very early to be talking presidential elections though. She is doing a good job of keeping her name in the news which could work for or against her later on.

There is a simple truth behind Palin's popularity and appeal that some people are simply incapable of understanding. When the average American looks and listens to her they aren't seeing a career politician, they're seeing someone who could very easily be their wife, sister, mother, neighbor. In other words, they are seeing a common person much like themselves. That alone, her and us, will determine her political future.
What a concept...a real person we can actually identify with and who identifies with us.
RickN
01-17-2010, 10:32 PM
Trans, most of us are waiting to see who runs. I doubt anyone here is dumb enough to have picked anyone yet. That said CWOJackson is correct. Palin does ring a bell with many for the reasons he gave.
I will add that when you really listen to Palin she shows herself to be intelligent, caring and funny when she wants to be. I do think she would be a breath of fresh in in DC but as I said it depends on who else is running as to who I will back, and even that can change during the election cycle as more becomes known about the candidates.
Naus, I have changed my mind about Europe a few times but not by anything you have posted, and to tell the truth usually for the worst.

I missed that in Clinton.
To me, the last President to connect with the common public in any such way was Reagan. A large part of that success is owed to Carter. People were worn out by Watergate, post-Vietnam, high unemployment, a sagging economy, and out of touch/control Congress and an ineffectual President running around the world apologizing for America. Reagan came on the scene with his smile and simple folksy talk...he was our favorite uncle or professor.
Palin has a lot of the same qualities that we identified with and is following Carter II.

Probably a bit of both; he was a decent actor but also a humble person.
Probably the most disingenuous part of his whole Presidency is how it's been reinvented by so many people in the last ten years. Ronald Reagan was a moderate, plain and simple...he believed in a big tent. That's why he appealed to and received the support of so many Democrats.
In the past decade a whole lot of people on the FAR right have tried to reinvent him into something he never was.
RickN

Again CWOJackson is right on the mark. Reagan was a moderate on many issues and that is one of the reasons I supported him.

Actually Ms. Palin if far more fit to run this country than the clown we presently have. She has held adminstrative position and oversite of responsibilities far larger than the current holder of the CIC position.
I will have to politely disagree with your presumption that she's a dead political figure though. As I said in another thread that got turned around to be a more sexual oriented thread than it was intended, and as Toasty so aptly said here ... she's smart like a fox ... she's doing the Fox Gig, for several reasons, not just because she needed a job.
Hell she don't need a job she's a best selling author book sales alone and speaking function fees would be enough to pay for the rest of her life. She didn't need Fox.
There is more up her sleeve than you suspect. She will become your yet future Nemeses, and take Mr. Bush's place very soon.
Something more for you to love to hate about the U.S.
Have a nice day.

Bah, the admiration for Ms.Palin of 50+ white ultra conservative men is anyway strongly sexually oriented, that is not news.
There is more up her sleeve than you suspect. She will become your yet future Nemeses, and take Mr. Bush's place very soon.

Ms.Palin's sleeves are empty when it's not about making this or that ego-deal for herself. That can work out as long as you stay out of too much spotlight. Unfortunately she is not smart enough to do that. The Fox deal puts here right there where she has no interest to be for too long time, and that is in the spotlight of critic of the American media. With her thin knowledge of complex geo politic situations she will get all the chances to goof around more than once and make a fool out of herself, like she did during the presidential campaign, and that is exactly what already started to happen. The Fox News "you are in friendly territory" idea is not enough to protect her from herself.
That all this is of no importance and that she still appeals as the "girl next door" (as it was said here) to the voters might seem true to people who are like herself: provincial, ultra-conservative, and more or less mildly uninterested in the rest of the world. True also that everybody has the tendency to project himself on others, and her fans do that too. But unfortunately that is not how it works: She is a clown for a another large part of the American voters, even for the more centrist part of her own party.
She is now on a major media channel where she has all the chances to make herself seem even more wacky, and it has already started, just look at the recent "founding fathers" interview. In a presidential campaign, every funny sentence will be digged out. She is burying her own grave concerning future presidency. But honestly, my personal opinion is that she is not interested to run. I even think she had enough of politics. I also think large parts of the GOP don't want her ever again in a presidential run - and probably she knows it.
So no, I am not worried about her ever being in an office that could harm me or my fellow citizens or the rest of the world.
