Not sure if this can be blamed on infrastructure in Haiti or not, but you can bet you're bottom dollar that the U.S. and not anyone else will take the brunt of this.

BTW, while on this subject ...
Does anyone know if Obama has ordered any carrier task force to Haiti?

Seems to me that when the Tsunami hit, the first thing Bush did and got laughed at was to send a carrier task force to aid the people. When the benefits of what a carrier could provide were finally disclosed it wasn't such a lame brained idea after all .... and yet what does Obama do? He sends a destroyer USS Normandy with what one helo launching pad? And most probably this ship will not dock in harbor but will be off shore.

I believe there is a carrier in Mayport that could be readied in days and sent.

There is a carrier enroute primarily for it's fresh water-making capabilities. However, the port is also damaged and it's unknown whether the carrier will be able to enter, or anchor off-shore.

Although the U.S. will probably be lead in this operation - many nations are contributing - some more than others.

I heard China has contributed a whoping one (1) million dollars !!!

I'm always surprised by these bastard's casual disinterest in human life and human rights. It's crappy that we do soo much business with them.

Okay I didn't hear about that ... and that was exactly one of the reasons Bush sent the task force to the Tsnunami area.

But the carrier has a far better helo compliment to expidite the water distribution than a destroyer does. And a carrier has a hosptial on board too that can aid in helping the injured.

The USNS Comfort (hospital ship) is being quick-readied in Baltimore for departure also. The question still remains as to their ability to dock in the harbor also. Once there (around monday), they bring the equivilent of two major hospitals and a serious trauma and surgery capability.

U.S.S. Carl Vinson was dispatched and even resupplied underway by helicopters to avoid a delay in moving out.

A better response than New Orleans saw after Katrina.

Haiti doesn't have local politicians to screw up the relief efforts.
