No surprise there really - as a society us in the West believe that technology can be solution to all our problems. What we really mean by that is that it is potentially a cheaper and quicker way of doing it. Can you imagine how many security staff would be needed to interview and assess every passenger st Heathrow? I can't see British airport authorities carrying that cost and I can't see the paying passengers liking the cost or the potential wait. Having said that I am none too sure that our current airport security is too brilliant - I strongly suspect it is more for show and reassurance than anything else.
