To me a true show of class is lowering your sword when your adversary is weak and bleeding. There's a point where you have to draw the line and extend a humane pat on the shoulder or well wish. There have been many former and bitter enemies who have done just that.

I think in this you give far too much credit to both sides of the aisle.

IMHO, I do not think that there would be as much cheering as you imagine with regard to Obama. For the right knows that if anything happens to this empty suit, we will end up with an even emptier suit in his place ... Joe "the fool" Biden. As it sits, Obama is the lesser of two evils.

And the left never had any class. Their deepest desire that something ill fated happen to Limbaugh was just cut short and they're pissed.

I believe that after the Vice President becomes President he then appoints a new Vice President. If both the President and Vice President cannot serve for some reason, (at the same time) then the next in line is the Speaker of the House.

I am basing this on Spiro Agnew's resignation. At that time Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as Vice President (who was House Minority Leader). Ford became the first non-elected president when Nixon resigned, Ford then appointed Nelson Rockefeller to Vice President.

Should something happen to Obama, Biden becomes Pres and Pelosi VP. That's how Ford got into the White House. He was Speaker of the House when Agnew resigned which made him VP. Then when Nixon resigned, Ford got promoted again.
