It's funny, and a bit pathetic, to read where many Russians complain that they are "not liked" much when they travel to some of the former Soviet republics. Well, gee. . . I wonder why ? You should read about how the Kazahks, Azerbaijanis and the Tarters were treated by the "White" Russians in the CCC-P.
Also, complaining about lost world power and prestige and the fact that cheap vodka cost a few rubles more sounds like a weak rant to me.
****'em. The Soviets oppressed and abused enough people for one lifetime.

I have to agree with Toast. Having traveled to Russia and former Soviet Republics I got a strong if not "persuaded" sense of things between "White Russians" and the indigenous populations on Russia's rim. There is no love loss between them but inside Russia still very many are bruised by the loss of their once powerful position in the world. Yes they do want back that prestige but I question whether or not modern Russians would tolerate the conditions of the past. One thing I bank on is that once the latter day crop of Soviet holdouts die off, Russia will undergo further transformation and hopefully for the better.
