The water situation in the southwest is very interesting. Essentially the sources which used to provide for California, Arizona and Nevada are now being used further upstream and the fossil water sources which provide underground water for irrigation are rapidly either becoming depleted or brackish due to seawater incursion. The amount used by drug farmers is very tiny compared to the overall domestic and commercial use and has no real effect on the total volume of water used. There isn't much doubt that without construction of large desalination plants, the South Western US is going to run very short of water in the coming years.

There are also serious issues with water abstraction for farming reducing the flow in the Rio Grande.

Had a Problem, a species of fresh water smelt, was commiting mass suicide on the pump filtration screens utilized in California.

The southwest is a semi arrid area, too high a demand for water, causes the water table to receed. But those asshole developers, keep packing people in, for the profit motive :BS:

I see it as the Liberal Press trying to clear the Wacko Eviornmentalist's skirts, and clear them of blame, for a vast part of California becoming a desert.
