Wow - quite a global economy we live in, eh? I was shocked by the projection that world shipyards will have run out of ships to build by 2011, due to excess container and crude carriers sitting idle.

If nobody's spending money (globally), then where the hell is it all. . . ?

Toast,
It's definitely brings a chill factor looking at all those ships sitting idle there....

As far as where is all the global money going - who knows ?

If it's going anywhere, my bet is on China.

I don't think its going anywhere Willy ... says they're idle with no crews. So if they stay anchored in the water, without maintainence, chance are it becomes several reefs ...

Of course the other deal would be to start hauling them to shore and making scrap metal out of em ... maybe that might stimulate something who knows.

Yeah, I did mean where the money's going. :thumbs up:

No idea what they'll do with those ships.. probably get sold to the highest bidder at scrap prices. Although if I was a terrorist, I'd be looking at one for use as a very large floating truck bomb. You could take out a huge hunk of a city with one filled with ammonia nitrate. Or slip in a nuke mixed in with the cargo... all kinds of possibilities there.

I'll go with the floating bomb theory, not the nuke, there ain't enough shielding available to hide it from the detection gear mounted on aircraft

Lets not forget certain nations have bought surplus soviet naval and current naval tech ie iran and major terror force from hell. Dont take much to train and conceal a nuke aboard. Always expect the unexpected and never underestimate or your ass gets fried quick for over confidence and cockyness.

Uncle Al, a nuke is easily sheilded. No radiation would get through until you detonated.
