What a bull. You are already in SOCIALISM!! You were already there since decades when your artificially low gas price ressembled more a Stalinistic economic master plan than the actual world reality. Where the hell did you think you where living then?! On planet Earth or Utopia? Take a pick!

You're using GAS prices as evidence the US is living in socialism? Just because Europe's gas prices are inflated with ponderous taxes (at least more ponderous than the 27 to 63 cents per gallon taxed in the US)

Let's see...

UK $3.49 /gal tax - in addition to the fuel cost
Germany : $7.62/gal tax
Netherlands $3.50/gal tax + 19% VAT
Norway: $5.33/gal tax
Canada: $1.12/gal tax
Australia: 1.96/gal tax
Russia: $0.35/gal tax + 18% VAT

Hmm. We are higher than Russia - maybe we are in socialism after all.

If the US gas price was so low then, why did it go so high when the world price shot up? American socialism broke down?

You're seeing monsters under the bed.

One Man's Opinion

When the economy was going great guns, Canada paid down its debt significantly. According to an accepted model, that's what you are supposed to do when the going is good. When the going gets bad, you spend public money for stimulus.

After years of budget surpluses and paying down the national debt, the government of Canada (a CONSERVATIVE government) today is projecting $64 BN in deficits for the next couple of years.

It sounds like the current (new) American government is going to do what it SHOULD do, only previous governments ran up the debt rather than taking a bite out of it. That's where things seem to be out of whack.
